Happy Hour at Home

One thing that I have been doing whilst in quarantine to keep an air of normality is a Happy Hour at home. It’s a chance to experiment with what’s in the drinks cabinet and come up with new creations or jazz up tried-and-tested cocktails. Very luckily for me, my boyfriend has worked in bars across the world (I know, what a result) and so the success rate has been high when experimenting. Whether it’s to drink with friends over a Zoom call or just having some time to relax with some of your favourite music on, who doesn’t love an excuse for a cocktail?

A sweet-twist on a Negroni

Whilst a Negroni is a great cocktail, it’s not to everyone’s taste. We made a few changes, but made sure we still used (mainly) Italian Spirits as an ode to the original. To make two you will need:

  • 50ml Gin (we’ve used Tanqueray Flor de Sevilla and a Damson Gin but if you have any Sloe Gin left over from Christmas, that’s delicious too)
  • 50ml Martini Rosso
  • 50ml Aperol

Put a handful of ice cubes into a jug, pour each of the spirits into the jug and give it a good stir. Choose your favourite glasses and fill with ice cubes and a slice of orange or tangerine (optional) and equally pour the cocktail into each glass. All that’s left to do it sit back and imagine you’re in the Italian sunshine!

A Floral Gin Fizz

A classic Gin Fizz is perhaps the most easy-drinking cocktail there is. On top of it being delicious, there is a super easy way to jazz it up – Elderflower. To make two cocktails you will need:

  • 100ml Gin
  • 25ml lemon juice
  • 25ml elderflower
  • A dash of Soda Water

Simply put all the ingredients, bar the soda water, into a cocktail shaker with ice and give it a good ol’ shake. Fill your glass of choice with ice and a slice of lemon. Pour the mixture from the shaker into the glass and top with soda water.

Aperol Spritz

A classic Aperitif, the Aperol Spritz is one of my favourite drinks EVER and reminds me of long hot summers in Italy! To make two you will need:

  • 100ml Aperol.
  • Top with a generous amount of Prosecco.
  • A dash of soda water.

The Aperol Spritz is so quick and easy, just pour all the ingredients into your glass. Add ice and a slice of orange and basil (optional).

Ultimate Espresso Martini

Every Happy Hour needs an espresso martini. This one is delicious and such a treat! To make two you will need:

  • 100ml fresh Espresso.
  • 25ml Absolut Vanilla Vodka.
  • 25ml Kahlua.
  • 25ml Mozart chocolate liqueur (There’s a choice of white, milk and dark so use whatever you prefer).
  • 25ml sugar syrup.

Measure out your ingredients into your cocktail shaker and put a few ice-cubes in. Give it a good shake and pour into your glass of choice. Best enjoyed in a comfy chair!

A Taste of Summer

This delicious little tipple tastes like sunshine in a glass! To make two you will need:

  • 100ml Aperol
  • Prosecco (let’s go with a bottle because you will want more than one of these!)
  • Blood Orange Juice

Simply pour all your ingredients over ice into your favourite glass, top with an orange slice and enjoy!

The main thing with Happy Hour at Home is just to have fun, even if it’s the simplest tweak to your favourite cocktails. Now it’s time to put a great playlist on and relax into the evening… cheers!
